Bracken currently seeks poetry and art that fit the aesthetic of our journal. Bracken accepts unsolicited submissions only via Submittable. Submissions emailed to Bracken's email address will be deleted unread. We may occasionally solicit submissions from poets whose work we feel would be a good fit for the journal.
Before you submit, it may help to explore our past issues. We are especially interested in creative work that helps us feel our underlying oneness with all of nature.
Bracken supports diversity and welcomes work by and about individuals of all ages, classes, disabilities, ethnicities, genders, nationalities, races, religions, and sexual orientations.
Bracken purchases first worldwide English-language serial and electronic rights for written work. Each piece we acquire will be published on brackenmagazine.com in an electronic issue. We may also excerpt writing for promotional purposes. The author retains all other rights.
Bracken features the art we select on brackenmagazine.com and sometimes promotes that artwork. No other rights are requested.
We seek work that is previously unpublished. Simultaneous submissions are considered. We ask that you let us know promptly via Submittable if your piece has been accepted elsewhere.
Fee to submit: $3 per submission of writing; art queries and cover queries are free. (If the $3 submission fee is prohibitive for you, please let us know at info@brackenmagazine.com so that we can arrange for you to be able to submit without paying the fee. Please do not send your work to this email address.)
We pay: $30 for each previously unpublished piece of written work, $30 per art feature (which may consist of multiple images), and a negotiated rate for cover art.
We consider any style of poetry, although we confess our bias toward the lyrical. We look for natural-world elements in the poems we receive. Send us poems through which we can rediscover that we are nature—poems that slip in under our skin and change the light around us.

Requirements:
- up to 5 poems per submission in a single document
- no more than 100 lines per poem (we prefer shorter pieces)
- original and unpublished
- no multiple submissions
- simultaneous submissions okay (and you can withdraw individual poems by leaving us a note in Submittable)
Payment: We pay $30/poem.
We feature artwork that fits our visual and content aesthetic. We are interested in all visual art forms that could be showcased successfully on the web, including photography, moving image, installations, site-specific installations, wearable art, short dance videos, and new media.
We prefer portfolio links over individual piece submissions. If one of your pieces catches our eye as a cover potential, we'll be in touch to discuss and negotiate the rate.
Payment: We pay $30 per art feature, which may consist of a single or multiple pieces.
